'Baby Driver': Millennial Mash Up

Think of this as a solar system with a young (hopefully upcoming) star being orbited by an ensemble of heavyweights. Elgort is not required to do much real acting while Hamm, Foxx, Bernthal, and Spacey, provide all the fireworks. The strength of the orbiting personalities seemed to make it work for all ages of audience.

Elgort was forced into servitude by Spacey when he was caught stealing Spacey's car. Because of his tinnitus, he constantly listens to music while this raises much concern about his abilities and sanity. (The soundtrack plays strong second fiddle to the action.) Elgort is about to finally work off his "debt" when he meets Lily James. Sparks fly and they want to be together but Spacey has other plans.

The film starts off with a few guiltless crimes but quickly changes tone just before half-time. Now, brutality is introduced via Foxx and Hamm leading to poor Baby running for his life.

I thought I wasn't going to like this but it won me over after halfway. Foxx and Hamm become serious psychos and Spacey does what he can to extricate him from a deadly situation.

For popcorn's sake, this is worth a visit to the cold, dark silver screen. Entertaining, surprisingly moralistic with lots of car smashing and bullets flying. Uncurly your powdered wigs and live a little.
