Those who compared it to the first say the first half of the film moves along much better than the first.

And they say Andy Serkis out performs many of the humans.

Where else can you see an ape riding a horse carrying a machine gun?

Sounds like a winner to me.

While I haven't seen Snowpiercer yet either (it's available on Comcast Demand) it looks like the superior film, even though a thinly veiled support for the Occupy Movement.
