Before seeing it, I thought it would be too long at almost 3hrs. But the time went by quickly.
My wife and I had streamed all 3 Swedish Dragon movies and she has read all 3 books. She felt that the US movie was closer to the book. We both agreed that Mara was a better Lisbeth. The US movie provided more insight into Lisbeth's character and provided better reasons for her to be a sympathetic character. US movie was less sympathetic towards Blomquist however, which I felt was truer to the story.
One thing the US movie did not due was to provide more time to explain Lisbeth's bond with her previous guardian. However more time was given to the depravity of her new guardian which I felt to be unnecessary. In these areas the Swedish version was better.
Looting of the money did not require so much film time. A few computer key strokes and images of Lisbeth in a banker's office would have been sufficient and cut the sequence by 75%.
US version stands up very well to the Swedish, and in some ways is superior. Mara will receive awards and justifiably so.
Best, Ross
