As for "behind the scene" money issues, it has nothing to do with the success of the films, either critical or financial. It's obviously New Line's lawyers trying to hold on to every cent as long as possible. Peter Jackson hasn't been unreasonable, that's very clear as well. What this story is about, in essence, is a Hollywood studio doing what Hollywood studios (& most corporations) do, manipulate money, which frustrates those who actually do the work.
