Yes, I've seen the animation version. For visual effects, I think it was inspired by John Carpenter's "The Thing" as there were many similiarties with the creature effects. The character animation is stylised and doesn't cater to the usual Japanese animation norm. But, offers much to many Japanimation fans.
I forget the Japanese title, something like translated to english, "wild creatures in Future Shibuya(city)"
