The persistent anxiety and gray mud, the acting, the episodic approach--the movie is propelled along by one lengthy predicament after another, the arc of the mian character from innocent pacific to forlorn participant, the final feeling of futility and nothingness, is it a metaphor for all lives lived--not just in war?

My favorite three movies were Banshees of..., Tar, and All Quiet...--All Quiet.. may become the classic war film.
