new here, though Denzel is (as usual) worth the time. The part of the heavy, played by Jared Leto, is well-written and even better acted. Rami Malek, I'm sad to say, doesn't convince as a detective: he's far too unconventional acting or looking to make it on a "real" police force--- they are, after all, heavily militarized these days and (still) have a macho-man culture.
The much-discussed ending indeed is controversial and may have contributed to the lesser ranking this film has garnered: I wouldn't disagree with that. That said, it's a good, professional thriller, far below a "Se7en," but almost all serial killer dramas are...
