RE: upgrade OPT for TU-8200

Posted by cabelok on March 21, 2016 at 23:01:35:

I tried KT88's (new JJ's) the amp ran very hot (the bass was better). I stuck a big heat sink with heat transfer tape but opted to send the tubes back as it didn't seem to help much - I don't like very hot tube amps. The 8200 likes 6L6GC's, runs slightly warm, never hot. I opted to go the active subwoofer route (x2) with very good results. The bass improves over time, so be patient. I'm very happy with it. The IC's made a big difference as well - DIY, thin solid silver with minimalist RCA's. Good power cords also tightened the bass. It depends what you listen to and what your goal is.
