what would be nice would be ...

... if someone actually went to the trouble to write firmware that would:
1. parse the audio_ts and video_ts directories on the DVD-A
2. determine which is the best stereo format (in order of preference, MLP 2.0, LPCM 2.0 on audio_ts, LPCM 2.0 on video_ts, downmix MLP 5.1, ...)
3. play that as a default if the user has specified that they only want to listen in 2ch

unfortunately, this is probably unlikely to happen, esp. as dvd-a navigation and decoding is now typically embedded in the chipset and not handled by firmware at all

until that happens, the best approach is to maintain a spreadsheet or some sort of list that lists the location of the stereo track for each title (ie. MLP 2.0 is in Group 2, or the best stereo track is actually the LPCM 2.0 track on video_ts) - i believe there is even a web site out there that tracks this info but i can't seem to find it just then.

and of course the format is dead so nobody cares (insert evil grin) :-)
