Pickings are generally slim and you have to really know your stuff to recognize whats there. Since there are mods for this player posted, I am thinking about giving it a try, assuming that I still like the sound on further audition. At minimum, the tinny case should be damped and output coupling capacitors upgraded. Some better rca's and an IEC power cord connector because I have some decent power cables lying about. It will be going up against my NAD 525BEE, which is an updated version of the NAD 521i, which the Lapizator also liked. I am in the cheap seats, but I am having fun and listening to a lot of great music, so it's not so bad! Even if it does not beat the NAD, I am thinking about using it as dedicated CD play in my video system. My DVD player, like my CD players are modest.
