IMO the Marantz is the opposite of crisp

which is why I chose a Marantz over an Oppo and a Naim after week-long testing.

I don't think you need to spend more than $400 to get a CD player with the factors you're considering (NAD, Arcam would fit the bill) - my Arcam 7SE or CD23 (used and cheap) would fit the bill I think. maybe Cambridge Audio.

Having said that, I love Marantz!
