Should I buy PS audio DL3 @ $500 or move to something newer?

OK, I'm new to computer/server music realm. But I have a lot of FLAC files on my hard drive and am tired of burning CD's. So, as I understand it, I need a USB DAC to be able to play from the computer.

The DL3 got good reviews but is about 5 yrs old now and does not employ USB 2 from my understanding. This will not allow for upsampling. (I suppose upsampling is good?) So, what should I consider at the $500 price range? Or should I consider a USB to Spdif adapter with the DL3 since that would allow for upsampling?

The things that I've read about the DL3 which I like are
the analog sound
strong bass
and the ability to use as a DAC for my CDP.
FWIW, I'm not sure the CDP would benefit from the DAC. But it would be interesting to compare.
I appreciate the help
