I have had similar thoughts... not having any other format than the stock CD's. But apparently all the relevant bits and bobs are generally of a higher spec so you are rewarded with a better red book playback. I will one day try a back to back comparison... but so far I have been reasonable happy with my none evolution CX7 but on those dark evenings you do sometimes start to wonder what you are missing.
