It depends what your swapping in and out....opamp wise.

The opamp will set the flavour of the sound and then the caps and all rest of the components will take bits away from the sound.

As a rule of thumb use the best components you can but keep away from blackgates ...imo they are expensive and take forever to break in

the paper in oil caps I've used really open the sond up but as they are very large I've had to sqeeze them in next to the transformer , where they occupy the whole of one side.

as to the effects changes have

opamps 40%
cable 15%
caps 40%
resistors 10%
rectifiers 30%

these are non empirical and only IMO!
