Re: NBS : Omega I vs. Monitor I

Posted by Jay-Mac on April 11, 2004 at 10:41:30:

I've only used and own Monitor 0 and 1 not Omega. Why wouldn't you look to step up to Monitor O? I believe you can get them for about the price of the Omega 1. What I have read about the Omega's is that they are a little thinner sounding.

To me the Monitor line, with its utter neutrality, incredible treble and bass extension and soundstage to die for, is a great cable.

What I have done is mixed in other cables. I have Monitor 0 power cables into the Plinius SB300 amp and PS Audio PS 1000 power regenerator. Then a Monitor 1 into the Meridian
G98 DVD-A/DVD-V/CD transport with a Monitor 1 Digital cable (rca) into the Meridian G68 Pre/Pro. Then I have an Electragilde Ultra Khan power cable feeding the G68 that gives the sound a little more bite and slight fuller bass but no harshness. Then a pair of Purist Audio Dominus rca's to the Plinius amp for a richer flavor and finally the Monitor 1 bi-wire speaker cables and NBS banana jumpers to the Dali Euphonia MS-5 speakers.

My point is that going with all of one manufacturer is going to almost give you too much of one thing and not a lot of another. I have tried a NBS Monitor 1 power cable and a Harmonix Studio Master into the G68 Pre/pro an neither added the right mix that the Electraglide did.

I had NBS Professional III interconnects before the Purist Audio Design Dominus and I felt the need for a little more richness and darkness to the balance.

Finally I have an amazing combination of the strengths of mostly NBS Monitor with a dash of Purist Audio Design and Electraglide.
