Mercury Filled Speaker Cables
Posted by Reknaw on June 7, 2002 at 03:30:13:
Here's a few DIY tips
PARTS LIST AS FOLLOWS:
2 x 20ft lengths of premium quality carbon fiber reinforced garden hose
4 x 1/2" Gold plated oxygen free copper H/D terminal lugs
4 x 1" hose clamps
1/2 Gallon ultra filtered mercury.
1. Insert one lug terminal into one end of each hose length.
2. Fit and tighten clamps.
3. With assistance from a friend take the above items and a funnel, climb on to the roof of your house and standing on the edge dangle one of the hoses over the edge making sure it hangs straight and vertical to the ground below.
4. Insert funnel into the open end of the hose and fill with mercury.
5. Insert other terminal lug and fit and tighten clamp.
Repeat process for other cable. Be sure to avoid air pockets when filling as this has been know to cause a 'hollow' mid-range. Take care while handling the cables as the weight of the mercury may cause you to overbalance and fall off the roof.
Once complete climb down, inspect the cables for leaks and install them between your amplifier and speakers. Switch on and "ENJOY!!"
Maybe unsuitable for chamber music and Tibetan Chants..... but KICKS ARSE on HEAVY METAL!!!!!
