Vahalla versus something good-FIM Gold
Posted by Norm on June 3, 2001 at 17:20:13:
Yes, I saw the thread on Vahalla versus NBS. I never had recent NBS, such as the Monitor 0s, but I did have statement interconnects. I found various cables, such as Lewis Audio, Omega Mikro, Purist Dominus, Siltech Gen 1-3, Ensemble, Van Evers, Stealth Golds, and NBS had relative benefits over each that preceded it. I am sorry, but I don't even remember the order I had these. I got in the FIM, and pain in the ass they were to install, they were clearly superior to all that came before by a wide margin. They were more dynamic (here I believe only horn speaker owners can comment), were more neutral, had a encompasing sound stage, and were utterly transparent. Several friends who had NBS Monitor 0 cables agreed in time. Then came Vahalla!
Never have I heard the neutrality of these cables. I am there in the studio. I know we have all said that before, but in retrospect nothing else was even close. I had tried other Nordost products over the year and always found them favoring the top end--analytical. Not the Vahalla, even when I first installed them. I should also say that four days on the Nordost breakin unit greatly enhanses the sound.
One final comment. Last evening I switched my Vahalla off my Marantz to my Audio Note DAC 4 Signature in stead of the Stealth Gold. I can only hope to soon be able to buy the remaining Vahalla I need. The Marantz SA-1 transport, Omega Mikro Ebony digital, AN DAC 4 S. and Vahalla from there makes cds sound better than any sacd I have.
