for use as a digital IC, only a single run is required, and the recommended length is .75m, so the cost is actually more like $1,000 in this application.

For people with digital front ends costing $10k+, many find the cost quite justifiable given the improvement. By $20k, it's a no-brainer as a 5% incremental cost.

YMMV, and yes, in the "average" (whatever that is) system, greater musical rewards may be reaped by investing the thou' some other way, but for those playing at the level described above, it's worth checking out.
