Some people like the combination, but in a recent listening session (not too far down this page) there's some variability about that. I personally think it's better to keep the chain simple unless there are problems you need to mask. Not to be negative here - we all have system problems, it's just a question of when masking them is the best option.

The easiest, cheapest way is to get a switch box from Radio Shack or a similar source. I have one, and use it often. (I do have a Foreplay, and the vinyl and CD are on inputs 1 and 2. The cassette and tuner share input 3 through the switch box.)
