V4 monoblocs.....

Posted by Marc Bratton on March 28, 2005 at 18:08:35:

I'd never EVER turn loose of 'em either, if I were fortunate enough to own a pair. Actually, the gent I bought my M80's from ALSO had a pair of V4's for sale. While he had 'em priced very reasonably, it was still a bit more than I could swing. Wondering if I'd made the right choice, I asked him how close the M80's were sonically to your V4's. His reply was to the effect that, while the V4's were undeniably noticably more powerful, the mid's of the EL34 based M80's were noticably lusher. All in all, you pays your money and takes your choice. Modest as my power needs are in this little condo, the V4's would probably be overkill...but too much of a good thing can be wonderful! I think Mike Sanders makes about the best tube amps out there, most certainly the best bang for the buck.
