Yeah, the Forte 4a, especially with the "Soderburg mods" is a really good amplifier. I have TWO of them! But, they have very low output (source) impedance so you don't get that slight frequency-response-shaping that tube amps exhibit when driving speakers, which can often be quite nice sounding. Not accurate, but nonetheless nice sounding. I A/B'd one of my modded Forte 4a amps on a pair of SEAS EXCEL 5.5" sealed two-way speakers I have against my Audioromy FU-29 tube amp, and while the Forte had tighter control of the low end, the euphonics of the tube amp just make for a more pleasant listening experience. It's hard to describe, but easy to hear. There's something about certain tube amps with certain speakers that is just, well, NICE.
