NAD724PE vs 1600 preamp?

Posted by Potsy on June 21, 2012 at 19:37:03:

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for some advice about whether it's worth fixing an NAD1600 preamp. I have been using an NAD7240PE is a preamp only. Since I'm not using the amplifier, I thought I'd get a dedicated preamp and picked up an NAD1600 from ebay. But the 1600 sounds terrible. There's no bottom end, it's all tinny and nasty, to the extent that there must be something wrong with it. Is it worth fixing a 1600 or should I just send it back and argue with the seller?
Thanks
Potsy
