RE: Rogue Cronus Magnum Review

No, Abe, it doesn't look like you have the larger top. Some large bottle tubes like the 6CA7 will just fit in the original top but without leaving much air space, which bothered me (especially with metal base tubes). Hence the extenders and, later, the punch out.

If one's system is revealing, as I'm sure yours is with the Theils, all of the small tubes will make for a significant difference in the sound. After a lot of rolling with pretty much all of the new production tubes available (including the Psvane and Genalex), I find I like the JJ Teslas (short plate versions; haven't tried the long plates) in both the driver and phase splitter positions. (Rogue ships the JJs for the phase splitters, although I think they're the long plates). I even like them better than most NOS I've tried.

Edit: I've changed my cabling and I'm hearing some graininess with the JJs now. Back to experimenting: I'll post my finding when I finish.

For the pre-amp my favorite is the Radiotechnique.

Also for those not thrown by such things, upgrading the 6 fuses (I used Hi-Fi Tuning Classics) improves resolution noticeably.
