Help: Ella started to hum and wax came out of one OPT
Posted by Biarritz on February 1, 2007 at 05:51:02:
Hi,
I have used my Ella for about two years now. It is running in triode and has russian mill coupling caps. I use a tube pre-amp with it.Today I unplugged the line-in form my pre-ampand connected it to my CD player, while Ella and pre amp were running (Stupid). As soon as the center of the plug hit the grounding ring of the connector on my CD player a hum appeared from the right channel of the Ella.
I turned the Ella of immediately. Then I remove all covers from the transformers and checked for dammage inside. There was nothing to see. I started up the amp again to check the bias settings. I biassed it about one hour before. I noticed that there was no voltage. After 30 secs I heared some hissing sound and noticed that there were 4 or 5 wax drops coming from the right OPT. I turned of the Ella immediately.
I hope I have not damaged any expensive components, but could anybody tell me how to proceed here?
Thanks in advance,
Patrick
