I had about that many maybe 2-3 years ago, and went (and am still) going through the exact same thing you are. Countless thrift stores, yard sales, internet buys, record shows and weekly trips to the local used record store have pushed that count up to about 3,000 (and that doesn't even compare to some of the collections here). Local people will find out you're interested in buying (friend's friends, etc.) and you'll likely come across some very large collections.

At the rate you're buying, I can tell you from experience you'll need more space. I finally purchased a shelving system that has 16 13 1/2" square holes (it looks similar to Cactus' white shelves). I bought it at (you guessed it) a yard sale. I'll need at least 1 more, maybe 2.
