But any of this hierarchy discussion is somewhat moot as everyone has had a different upgrade route and I'd think that some of the mullet systems ( entry level TT and $$ cart ) combo could work to the owner's favour.
My experience has been:
I prefer an inexpensive cartridge fitted to my table of choice rather than expensive cartridge fitted to the tables I don't care for.
A phono stage is an odd bird where it fits in overall scheme of things, because it seems somewhat depending on the cartridge and load adjustability of a phono itself. ( get that wrong and you get a disaster )
