I had been looking for tables and the Project line seemed good. Started by a sales rep for turntables, he developed the line from customer input, the stuff they wanted, and manufactured out of an old eastern block turntable plant.
A local dealer carried the project line, and offered me a very good price on the then top of line Pro-ject . He would have had to order the table I was interested in, and I was tempted, but didn't want to feel obligated in any way since I had never sen the table, and wouldn't want to waste the guys time if he went to the trouble to order it in and I didn't buy it.
Turns out I dodged a bullet. The table was very new when I heard about it, and as time went by, it gained a few warm reviews. Now it has been reworked , with a very good review in Hi fi news. I wold not hesitate to buy the pro-ject 10, but only the later, improved version. The table market has gotten very competitive, and a recent design from a competitive company should really bring the goods.
Due to budget restraints, I bought another table, an older demo of a table recently written about as the 911 of turntables. That made me feel pretty good, and somewhat lucky, since my choice was mainly wallet driven.
