A power supply upgrade would be toward the very bottom of my list for a turntable. You have to assume that the existing power supply is at least adequate from the manufacturer. It is on the Technics regardless of what the mod guys hype. For belt drive "power supplies", there are none (it's just the AC mains) unless we're talking about spending a grand or so on speed control. I wouldn't do that until I've spent that grand on a good cartridge first.
I suppose this all depends on the table in question and where we are with each component in the first place before we talk about upgrades.
In my experience, a fully stock SL1200 will benefit more from say a $1000 cartridge BEFORE it benefits from any mod including 1)fluid damper, 2)tonearm rewire, 3)strobe disabler, 4)power supply, 5)bearing, etc.
I have a stock SL1200 and a KAB SL1200 and I've proven that to myself a few times. Yes, the KAB unit is slightly better BUT if I were very budget constrained I'd still put most of my funds into the cartridge before any of the KAB mods.
I believe AudioSoul and gentlegiantfan probably summed it up best that the transducers are most important. I tend to agree.
The cartridge is the closest component to the vinyl grooves and if this transducer doesn't perform well, there's nothing further down the chain that will improve it.
