Started out with a good ol FP(last, bottom pic)and an Emerson. Fastforward to the present day and am currently using a stock Denon DP 59L(Shure V15VxMR cart) and a modded ScottRT Technics 1600 MK2---Full auto operation(Audio Technia 440ML cart,Cardas tonearm wiring,Petra cables, damped tonearm matertial, new caps, and a killer automotive high gloss black paint job).Just luvin' life with both turntables :)
I had a real plastic clunker in my late teen years(Kenwood 49-something-or-other model).Still have my two JVC's (QL Y66F and QL Y55F)that are not pictured which are just wonderful sounding and performing direct drives...Various other quartz dd Technics models (SL 5300,SL Q3, SL Q303) also not shown.
This Technics 1600 MK2 modified by one of our own Vinyl Asylum members absolutely blew my mind away in how awesome these can sound and perform.Just changed my perception of what I had thought vinyl should sound like or was accustomed to listening to for years.A sleeper 'table awakened by Scott.
Always wanted a Denon DP 59L that when the chance came up several years ago,I didn't just buy one but two!---BOTH very saweet eBay deals.
My intro into the Technics realm with the 1200 M3D as well as my first AND only manual turntable (1997 model)
Ahhh, yes! The Sears Silvertone Stereo Console---This one I played everything from mom and dad's Spanish records,Chipmunks Christmas, to my Star Wars,Donna Summer, and Thomas Dolby albums!
The Emerson I had when I was 7. I broke the stylus by accident and was afraid to tell my folks(it was a brand new Christmas gift) so I did an even more atrocious and disturbing thing; I rigged up one of my mom's sewing needles with scotch tape and attached it---hey, at that age I figured a needle is a needle is a needle(had seen 'needles' used on 78 rpm Victrolas and figured what the heck)---It worked! It actually played my records...for a few spins until I discovered I was digging some serious trench into my Rick Dees 'Disco Duck',Chicago, Linda Ronstadt, and Lou Rawls 45's...Youth (sigh).
...Humble beginnings with the FP :)
Cheers,
Matt
