OT Apology. Tubesforever SL12XX bearing mod q's.

I have been really busy lately...well camping/fishing in the PNW mountains for over a little over a month while I looked for jobs at night on my laptop (slow ISDNish truck camper laptop internet over cell phone modem speeds keeps the VA'ing down)...and haven't been keeping up as much with my VA lurking duties. I am very interested in potential main bearing mods for the SL12XX's.

What I have managed to catch: It looked like you had done the listening testing for the 4 possible bearing/thrust plate combos with stock and silicon nitride ball and magical experimental material thrust plate of your choosing with a ROK you had available.

What was unclear to me was:

1.) it looks like it might not be much for a machinist to replace the SL1200 main bearing thrust plate, is this true?

2.) it looks to me as if it might be substantially more difficult for a machinist to recreate/retrofit this ellipsoid main bearing in a silicon nitride material. Do you think there is some way to get a sufficient silicon nitride main bearing into place on the SL12XX's?

3.) if you have devised some way to pull off a main bearing and or thrust plate upgrade mod is there a plan to either make this commercially available or detail it as a DIY project? I would just say that as a fan of KAB's machined spindle clamp solution I would hope that any commercially available bearing mods you were to offer in the future wouldn't exclude those of us using the KAB spindle clamp mod.

Peace, and I admire the dedication to run the experiments yourself what it must take to motivate oneself to do the work to gather this data. Theory is nice but experimental data is where the action is.
