I have no SME arm, just to make that clear.
The weakness of the 3000 series is said to be the knife-edge bearing. They are said to lack some in the low frequencies.
The 3012 is a very versatile arm compared to the 312. It can take any cart from medium compliance to the SPU, if a heavier custom-made counterweight is used. It can even take really heavy carts, like the 47g Ikeda 9MUSA. But if you have that one you most likely have an Ikeda arm.
