The Audio Technicas are not that hard to fine. There are none on eBay right now, but if you are willing to wait, some will show up soon enough.

If you want to try DIY, I have 4 Audio Technica AT 1005's that are in bad shape and not really usable as is -- but would make a great starting point for a DIY project. You can use the bearing, pillar and headhshell connector from it. You would only have to make the tube, counterweight and base.

I can let you have one (or more if you want) for $10 plus shipping. I won't charge anything extra for shipping, just actual postage. I'll just be happy if one is put to good use and can help someone. Email me if you're interested.
