That would be fatal defect in any turntable.He's talking about groove. Is the bass consistently bloated and late, or early, so that you hear everything but your toe does not tap, OR is the whole musical frequency spectrum tightly lined up to deliver the same sweaty grooving drive that the musicians felt in the studio.
I've heard a VPI 19 and it sounded a little boring and hi-fi to me. Maybe it was the tonearm. The Scoutmaster (again, maybe it's the stock arm giving this result) sounds more impressive at first but soon you realize that you have other things you need to do, like rearrange the wires behind your amp or get an early start on your taxes.
