RE: tubes...

Upscale Audio has Hitachi and Mullard 6GK5 tubes. They're screened so they're relatively pricey, but they are guaranteed quiet (I ebay-ed mine, for about 15% of the upscale audio price, and have found it to work for me, although unscreened some get noisy relatively quickly, so having a stash helps if you go this way). Jim McShane (find him in tubes asylum) always has some nice NOS tubes, too, with decent prices and I got a couple of my Tung Sol 6X4 tubes from him. With some patience ebay can work very well, and that's where I got my RCA 6EM7, remaining 6X4, and Amperex 12AU7 tubes.

After a trial with deciding to go with the Amperex 12AU7 tubes I was shocked at the ebay selling prices for NOS. In the end some of my Amperex 12AU7 tubes are labeled Valvo, some are labeled Bugle Boy, some are labeled Amperex, and a few are labeled Philips but they were all manufactured in the same plant and just printed with different labels. Learning this after studying and posting a bit in tubes asylum I started looking for the coded (Heerlen) Valvo tubes and got most mine from a seller in Germany for far less than my cute Amperex Bugle Boys, and they sound the same...

Hope this helps...

Jim
