RE: HELP: Origin Live Motor Upgrade & Oracle Delphi Mk2

I've installed the OL kits (both DC100 & DC200) a few times. Both motors are very quiet, with enough torque to drive my 16lb platter/viscous bearing.

Since I've no experience with your Oracle, I [edit] can't advise you on the mounting arrangment.

However, I can safely say that the mounting of the motor is critical to its overall performance. Personally, I don't like the way OL suggest mounting the motors on many tables, like the Oracle (http://www.turntable-power-supply.com/turntables_fitting/oracle.htm). In my case, I used a very different, proprietary to my table, approach.

With your Oracle, I'd suggest having a proper top plate made which utilizes three (instead of one) long bolts for precise placement/adjustment. The motor/pulley needs to be mounted perfectly true to the platter, to insure that the belt runs perfectly even on the pulley/platter. One of the most critical adjustments is the placment of the nuts which hold the motor in place. They should remain ever so slightly loose (using a touch of locktight to keep 'em place), allowing the motor some minor play in its mount. The top plate should be made of relatively heavy material, so it can act as a vibrational sink.

These OL DC kits have the potential to fully transform many a fine ole turntable. In order to justify the cost of these kits, the turntable must be very well built in the first place. The quality and health of the main bearing is a key consideration. Your Oracle was a good deck, if the bearing is in good shape, I have no doubt that it will sound considerably better with a properly mounted DC motor/kit.

However, these kits don't come cheap. Unless the job is done with some care, it might not be the most cost effective upgrade.

PS. Once you have the platter apart, consider new oil for the bearing.
