And speaking to creativepart's comment

I agree that my system favors a bright cart, especially considering the amount of damping in the room (overstuffed couch/ overstuffed chairs and wall to wall carpeting) and the size. It's not huge, but big enough to disperse the HF which is aided by my speakers dipole arrangement.

So it's probably true, when all things are taken together, that while the AT may be a better choice for me, the Ortofon is almost certainly more neutral. But neutral is only important relative to everything else. For me, the AT becomes neutral in my environment. In my initial impressions, I was missing the openness and impact I'd grown used to.

I don't intend to slam the ortofon in any way. I didn't give it a lot of time and instant gratification isn't a watchword in this hobby. I only compared it to one other cart which makes it impossible to give an accurate assessment of its relative merits.

So, my comments coupled with the other opinions given here should give a fairly balanced view of the situation and the capabilities of the Ortofon 2M blue.

I'm planning on spending some more time with the cart and break it in further once I get another headshell to mount it on.
