Interesting this as both myself and my Dad have been looking at various carts for our Technics SL1200/1210, the 2M range being some of them.
I currently use an AT120e/t and my Dad uses a Grado Prestige Gold ( our turntables are in completely different setups and houses by the way ).
From reading a lot of reviews and advice in the mags, online and from personal experience I ended up chosing the AT120e due to it's apparent 'synergy' with my phonostage and turntable. It's 'bright' sound suiting the slightly cloudy presentation of the technics.
It works very well.
The 2M range is interesting as they lack the frequency response generator droop in the upper mid/lower treble, the treble then peaked up after this, that older MM designs suffer from ( loading varies this of course).
So the 2M range no matter what model you pick has a very flat response from 20-20,000, far flatter than any(?) MM before it.
Maybe our ears aren't ready for this sort of accuracy !? Maybe our amps/speakers/room etc have been tuned to suit the older MM's ??
MC's do give a brighter sound apparently due to a flatter response at mid/high end.
