the bounce method is only addon.
When I had the Red I didn't notice any highend rolloff and I was used to the Denon DL-160. Prefer the 103 which does have s softer topend ...
Surface noise is high. The Black is taming down but if there is a definite pop to be had you have it. It has got to be a function of the high output ... with time the pops are becoming discernable but ignorable if not toom many of them show up. I think is is due to the Shibata stylus which you had on the AT. That stylus is said to be more forgiving of alignment & damaged records. The high end on the Black is very nice and on the Red it was very extended but the mids are prominant in a bossted way, sort of highlight time, but the bass reaches far enough up to soften the effect.
I tuned the system with RCA blackplatse and Japanese made Mullard rectifier so that the tone is what I like. Maybe changing tubes is an idea? I have a Hagerman Clarinet and a SS cj sonographe amp.
I have a Stereohedron stylus on a Pickering and thought that the shibata was worth going to on the 2M. Getting to that stylus on the 2M will cost more ...
After all that I can't believe that the 2m gave such a poor show. Maybe you should give it 20 hours to breakin, even with the bouncing. The midband peak diminishes and the compressed soundstage really opens up.
I don`t care much about music.
