Hello Rene,
Praise to whom it belongs: While I have been a strong supporter of appropriately high torque motors working against a constant drag(i.e. large surface bearing or eddy current brake equipped platter) ever since the early 80s, the design of the DPS bearing is SOLELY THAT OF WILLI BAUER. The bearing doesn't simulate a higher mass platter but reduces the influence of the stylus drag(vs. bearing drag)immensely. The low mass platter has the advantage of storing less(low frequency) energy. Ever tried to tap a huge acrylic platter while putting a stethoscope on its surface? Boooummphh....
The article made me raise my eyebrow too. Today's press is too frequently fast at presenting news that aren't, quotes that are misleading or plain made up - and if you ask for a correction, good luck!
Cheerio,
