I have retipped my 103R with a shibata stylus. In addition to opening up the highs and providing tons of detail as you might expect, it cleaned up the midrange and tightened the bass to some degree.
I suspect some (possibly a large percentage) of the overly warm & thick tonal balance you hear would be addressed by a more exotic stylus profile.
On the other hand, I'm not even close to implying the 103 can compete head to head with the Jubilee. Different league of cart.
