this past Monday---ever felt what I guess giving birth to (what feels like) a 10 lb. watermelon with jagged edges going through your urethra/piss pipe feels like?---Prior to that searing pain was the feeling like someone squeezing my right kidney---eh, I'm under 40,but felt 70 Monday...I have about 500 LP's, also.Grew up with vinyl(I have my own personal collection over the years PLUS what I inherited from relatives and friends over time)---gave it up for a few years back in the early 80's due to cassettes and cee dees and other interests as a teen.Had lived with the notion early on that inner groove distortion was the "norm" for the way records were suppose to sound.Had no clue about mid-fi or hi-fi turntables, vta, cart alignment, etc. back then. Had been playing my old vinyl tunes on cheap plastic 'tables and an old 70's Sears Silvertone console (parents')...Early 90's is when I felt the "revival" or resurgence to dip into vinyl again. Then, a few years ago was able to acquire some nice direct drive decks, the AT440ML,A Shure, and Micro Acoustics cart and have been enjoying vinyl better than I ever did in my youth!
Today, at Zia's Used record store I scored a sweet, mint, still sealed Supertramp "Breakfast in America" and a near mint Bad Company "Burnin' Sky" lp. Also, got me a jazz album from 1963---The Joe Daley Trio "At Newport '63".It's still in remarkably great shape with no groove wear, glossy cover looks fantastic. It's a mono RCA Victor Dynagroove release---a record that is 45 years OLD! It plays like a gem...THESE are the treasures that keep the fires alive for me with vinyl. It's also nice to know that the people who previously owned these records took great care of them or never really played them ,thus avoiding any kind of groove or wear and tear damage! Also, when I find a still sealed lp I think to myself, "Man, time really stood still for that one!"...
