I haven't had these old square motors out and running in a long time, so my memory was a bit fuzzy. I oiled up one of these last year or so. The oiled one is somewhat quieter than the non-oiled one, but it still has a low level buzzy vibration to it and is clearly audible. I think I may have confused these with a couple of old Dual and Garrard changer motors I have in the same box. My round ROK motor, just like the round Dual motors, run much quieter and smoother than the square motors do. I don't think the square motors I have would be quiet enough to use in a turntable meant for stereo use. Mono is less vibration sensitive in the vertical vibrations, so perhaps that motor was intended only for mono cartridges or AM radio station use.
