the VTA (stainless bits) aren't a requirement for function. One could easily just jab/stick/pound the small steel punch into mdf, acrylic or whatever [though a slighlty undersize hole, drilled first, might be easier :-) ..]. As long as the cart's operating height, for any user/builder was near/same as their current. One could build the arm for ten to twenty dollars [including headshell and hockey puck (counterweight), but not wire].
And possibly could fudge the vta a little with the usual assortment/suspects (playing cards, washers, etc.). Me .... I like my vta adjust. Could I do without, I suppose (went a half hour into first listening session, and realized I hadn't even looked or worried where it was set at). But I do like the easy. I don't miss cueing [no sheet (one less step in the ceremony)].
