that most commercial LPs are highly compromised, if this were not so Audiophile LPs would not exist, as they would be unneeded.
Simple logic.
I did not generalize I said “Most†not “Allâ€, go back and reread my post.
I do buy and sell a lot of software but I have never bounced back and forth with my feelings about the attributes of any format. Even when I quit collecting SACDs due to technical equipment issues I still felt SACDs often came close to the realism of LPs. And even when I sold my SOTA Comet and quit collecting LPs in 1999, I still believed LPs were the most realistic I was just tired of their care and feeding.
I like what I like and I dislike what I dislike and no one including you can make me listen to something I dislike. When I listen to music it MUST be an enjoyable experience or why bother?
I have in the past purchased many new commercial LPs while not a full price (I never pay retail for anything!) they are just not worth the price for the enjoyment or lack thereof they deliver. The reason I set a $1.00 limit for commercial LPs is that 9 out of 10 I reject for poor sonics. I have found for me it is Audiophile recordings that delivery the music and sound quality I crave. I guess you could say they are my musical drug of choice.
Just so you know I also prefer Audiophile SACDs and DVD-Audios such as Telarc, Chesky, Classic Records and AIX. And I prefer Audiophile “Real Time Duplicated†Reel to Reels such as Sound Ideas, Sonar, Ambisonic and Direct to Tape. Plus Audiophile Cassettes such as In Sync Labs, MFSL, Audible Illusions, Aesthetic Audio and Nakamichi Reference Series.
All I really want is what is on the master tape, all the bass, all the high frequencies, without the dynamic range squashed and the midrange boosted into distortion. Commercial recording companies do sometimes delivery a decent recording but it is extremely rare!
