Though I have spent far too much time, posting on this subject, I should try to make clearer what I said.
I listen mainly to vinyl, not because I think it is inrinsically a better way to record music, but because most OEM CDs of classical music don't sound very good. This is not the fault of the encoding method, as this whole thread prove (at least to me), but because most CDs are not done- mastered, produced, etc.,- very well. So most of a lot of my vinyl sounds better to me than most of my CDs. However, my best CDs sound every bit as good to me as my best vinyl, so the problem isn't the RBCD for me. I can only make the last statement since I got the Ayre CX-7e. With my previous CD player, which was highly regarded, no CD could match the best vinyl.
Lots of vinyl has quite poor sound, which seems to be overlooked in these parts. On average I expect to get better sound from vinyl than an OEM CD and even an SACD, but quite often I overlook the sound of pooer vinyl because the performance is wht really counts in the end for me, and the treasury of great performances on vinyl is unmatched on CDs.
I hope this makes it a bit clearer. I 'm done with this subject- it's getting to be repetitive and boring.
Joe
