The DVD-A is a 5.1 mix. The LP uses the dedicated stereo mix. Two entirely different animals. Plus the mixing and mastering of the stereo and 5.1 mixes on the CD/DVD were done by entirely different people. And there is no hi-res (DVD-A) stereo version on the DVD -- only 16/48 PCM.IMHO, the DVD-A 5.1 was nicely done; the stereo mix/mastering version is passable, but that's about it. Since the LP apparently uses the edited versions of Revolution and USSR found only on the CD, I suspect that, at best, the 16/44 master was used for this LP. I would be curious to find out if the LP was a new mastering using the digital master or whether it was just cut straight from an eq'd CD digital "cutting" master (for lack of a better term), i.e. identical to the CD.
The only true comparison would be to compare the LP to the CD -- or perhaps the stereo 16/48 version on the DVD.
I have a copy but haven't opened it yet because frankly I can't really see myself listening to it much. Maybe I'll change my mind...
