Hi-The turntable wouldn't be "worn out", but there could be a problem with the cartridge or the connection. perhaps with the receiver. However, first make sure that your receiver has a "phono" input and use it, since any other input will reduce the signal. New receivers often omit the phono input. In order to connect the table, you would need a special pre-amp between the turntable and the input if ther is no phono.
