VPI center weight better than clamp?

I've got a Scoutmaster witht the outer ring clamp and was wondering what to expect from the center weight if I replace the stock screw on clamp.
I'm getting it more for convenience because juggling the outer ring and unscrewing the clamp while changing records can be tricky.
Is it a sonic upgrade? Also, should it be used with or without the rubber O ring?
