is the platter level?try to answer "yes" to all 3, although the final question is the most important.
while you think it is a PITA, this is perhaps the #1 thing you can do for your setup. it is absolutely essential and will affect every other adjustment.
try to use something other than the bubble levels. unless you have a very good one, a regular ol' bar level will be much more accurate. simply measure twice, with the 2nd measurement perpendicular to the first.
