Does your motor generate much heat?

The reason is ask is that I recently obtained a McCurdy turntable (pictures at the link below) which was used by the CBC here in Canada from the 50's to the 80's (I was told). The person who had it built a large wooden box to house it. In order to see if it was worthwhile trying to rebuild a plinth and go the extra distance to get the most out of the table, I have basically left it as it was when I bought it and attached a birth ply armboard to fit the Sony arm I had (with Shure M97HE cartridge). So far it sounds pretty good with no audible or visible rumble ( I did clean and re-lube the bearing). However the huge motor does give off a lot of heat. After 2 lps worth of playing time the top plate is quite warm. Does this happen with Rek-O-Kut motors?

Thanks,

Harry
